Summer’s here and with it comes better weather, happier moods, and newfound inspiration! Most of us want to get our homes ready for the summer, but let’s face it – it’s just not realistic to redecorate every season! But there are some simple and inexpensive ways to breathe the feeling of summer into your home, quickly and easily. Simple and effective is the name of the game here!
1. Flowers
This might sound like a simple solution, and it most certainly is. But it’s also one of the most effective ways of adding a feeling of cheer and summer to any room in the home. Flowers don’t have to be expensive bouquets from a florist; you can grab a pretty bunch for a few pounds from the supermarket while you’re doing your weekly shop. Looked after well, flowers can last a week or longer!
2. Have a summer clean
If you didn’t do the classic spring cleaning back in March or April, now’s the time to get it done. It’s amazing how much of a difference a really good scrub can make to how a home looks and feels, even if it wasn’t particularly dirty in the first place. Get those curtains washed, the floors gleaming, and all that clutter tidied away. Now, your home is ready for all the guests and chaos that summer brings with it!
3. Prune that garden
Whether you’re an avid gardener or not, there’s no reason your garden or patio can’t look the part. Mow the lawn, trim back the hedges, and bring the patio furniture out from its winter hiding place. Add some simple accessories, like outdoor candles or lights, and some brightly coloured potted plants, and you’re good to go!
4. Add bright accessories
Just like we bring out different decorations for Christmas, we can do the same for summertime! Swap out the dark or neutral cushion covers in your living room for some brightly coloured ones. Change your bathroom towels from white to pink, turquoise, or whatever matches. Bring out the floral bedlinen instead of the darker colours or plain white ones. Basically – add some colour wherever you can!
