4 Ways to Create Your Own Wall Art

Tips

Posted 16/08/2018

Hanging pictures on the walls is the perfect finishing touch to a newly decorated room or can make all the difference when updating an already finished room. But things can get seriously pricey when it comes to purchasing the artwork with which to do it! Plus, there’s always the chance that you’ll end up with the same stuff everyone else has. Well, have you ever considered making your own wall art? It’s cheap, it’s fun, and it’s unique. What’s not to love?

1. Update an old canvas

Many of us have canvas art that we no longer love or no longer suits our home décor style. We put together a tutorial for bringing that canvas right up to date, so that you can still make use of it in your home and don’t have to splash out on something new and potentially expensive. Check it out here.

2. Buy printables...

Why buy a poster when you can print it for less? Printables have become all the rage in the last few years. Artists and crafters create artwork, in the form of images or fun and inspiring quotes, and sell the downloadable item online. You simply purchase it, download the art, and print it yourself. Then you can hang it using a frame you already own, a cheap one you find, or without a frame at all! Perfect.

3. ...or create your own

If you’re a bit of a creative yourself, you could even make your own artwork to print off. There are online illustrator tools, such as Canva or PicMonkey, that allow you to create unique images to suit your home. Then you simply print out and frame (or not), all at minimal cost. Just check out your chosen program’s copyright and ownership policies, as well as their terms and conditions.

4. Get stencilling

Stencilling is a creative way to achieve the look you want, at minimal cost. You can make your own stencils by cutting shapes out of card, and then paint onto either a blank canvas (which can be bought quite cheaply online) or straight onto the wall (if you’re feeling brave!). Kids will love getting involved in this project!
