The 3 Must-Haves for a New Year’s Eve Party

Inspiration

Posted 28/12/2017

Are you this year’s host for the New Year’s Eve party amongst your friends? Or perhaps you don’t normally ‘do’ New Year’s Eve at all, but you’ve been roped into the celebrations this year? However you may have ended up being the host with the most or the hostess with the mostest, you need to be prepared. And how? Well, by starting with the absolute must-haves, of course! Here they are:

1. Location, location, location

Your venue is key when it comes to hosting a great NYE party. Not because you need to hire an expensive hall or own a mansion – you don’t. But your venue does need to fit the party style and vice versa. Does your party have to be at your home, which is a labyrinth of small rooms? Make it an intimate dinner party, rather than a dancing party. Does your budget only stretch to a local village hall? Nothing wrong with that. Make this a casual affair with a buffet and dancing.

2. Food, glorious food - and drink

At most parties, people will expect to be fed in one manner or another. What you feed them, and how much, will depend upon the kind of party you throw and what time it begins. For instance, if your party starts at 6pm, it’s safe to assume that your guests will be expecting a full meal, either in sit-down form for a more intimate dinner party or in buffet form for a larger group. Likewise, if your party starts at 8pm or later, and it’s not a ‘dinner party’ you’re probably fairly safe with some light nibbles. In terms of drink, you can keep things simple with beer and wine, or you could go as far as offering ‘make your own’ cocktails. Whatever you do in this area, always remember to cater for non-drinkers, and for children, if they’re attending.

3. It's all in the decor

This is a New Year’s Eve party so, as lovely as your home may be, your normal décor just won’t cut it. NY means glitz, glamour, and sparkle, so pick a colour scheme and go all out with it. Silvers, blacks, and golds are fairly classic New Year colours, but as long as it’s shiny and glittery, any colour will do! Balloons, streamers, and ‘Happy New Year’ banners are always winners, and be sure to get yourself a large clock for the countdown and something large with the numerical year displayed.
