3 Ways to Transform Your Hallway

When you walk into almost any home, the first thing you see is the hallway. It’s your daily passage, but one that can easily become overcrowded and turn into a dumping ground for all the odds and ends that have nowhere else to go. Coats, endless pairs of shoes, junk mail…it all ends up in the hallway and can leave you with a very cluttered space that just isn’t nice to be in! To give your home the entrance that it deserves, why not give some thought to our hints and tips below?

1. Let the light in

Not every home is blessed with an abundance of natural light, but if you’re able to add a front door with a window or a window above it, then you’ll be able to illuminate your hallway with a natural glow – much more cheery than gloomy darkness! If you already have a window, make it stand out with a prettily patterned blind and some ornaments on the sill.

2. Add a feature

As ever, space is a much sought-after asset, so you’ll want to make the most of it. But this doesn’t meant that you can’t add a feature to your hallway! Why not add a slim side table with some elegantly turned legs? You can position it midway along your hallway and have it as the perfect resting spot for your keys, post, and phone – removing clutter in one swoop! Place a pretty picture or a mirror above it to really make it stand out.

 3. Get clever with hanging

Leaving your coat on a hook is convenient and is one of those personal touches that makes a house a home. The problem comes when your hooks get overcrowded with a dozen or more coats, jackets, dog leads, the kitchen sink... Try giving everyone in the family their own hook, and leave a couple spare for guests. The chances are that you only really need one coat at a given time of year, so keep the rest in your wardrobe and rotate as the seasons change. You can even buy individual hooks and space them out, varying the heights for that eclectic and homely feel.

Your hallway is one of those spaces that is never at the top of your to-do list, largely because you spend so little time in it, but that doesn't mean you can’t enjoy crafting it so that it improves your mood. We hope we have given you a few sparks of inspiration for how you can quickly and easily transform your hallway into something you really love!
