Your Roller Questions Answered
Are Roller Blinds Waterproof?
We offer a huge range of materials to choose from in our roller blinds collection, including water-resistant and waterproof PVC options. These splash-proof fabrics are a great addition to any kitchen or bathroom, and don't think function doesn't mean style, we offer plenty of fabulous patterns and colours in our water-resistant and waterproof collections.
Are Roller Blinds Blackout?
There are hundreds of blackout options to choose from in our range of roller blinds, perfect for creating a dark and cosy environment to get a good night's sleep! For the best blackout, we recommend fitting roller blinds inside the recess and as close to the window as possible to minimise any light leakage around the blind!
Are Roller Blinds Easy to Install?
Yes, one of the great features of a roller blind is the quick and easy installation. All that is required is to drill the two brackets in the correct place for your blind, then simply push the blind into place between them. For more info take a look at our straight-forward fitting guide! If you'd like to dodge the drill entirely though we'd recommend opting for our no-drill Twist&Fit range of rollers instead!
Can I Clean My Roller Blinds?
As we mentioned, our roller blinds come in a variety of different fabrics, but the cleaning method that suits them all is to lightly dust, and for stains or marks use a damp clean cloth with no cleaning products to lightly lift the stain. When it comes to water-resistant and waterproof options however, you can simply wipe the blinds down to clean them without having to worry abut damaging the fabric. We also offer specialised anti-bacterial roller blinds for areas where keeping germs at bay is a top priority, these fabrics are treated to prevent various forms of bacteria, fungus and mould from spreading.

Do Roller Blinds Keep Heat In?
Adding any roller blinds will help contribute to reducing heat loss at a window, but some are specially designed as thermal roller blinds to help increase their effectiveness as insulators. While not all rollers would be recommended for their thermal properties, our range of energy saving roller blinds are specially designed with this functionality in mind; Offering a quick solution to keeping your home cosy in winter and cool in summer, helping to keep your energy-bills down.
Should Roller Blinds Go Inside or Outside the Recess?
This is entirely up to you, the brackets that come with our standard rollers mean they can be top-fixed to a surface above i.e. window lintels, or face-fixed to the wall or window frame. If blocking out light is your top priority, we'd recommend going for an inside the recess fit to minimise as much light as possible. But if you have windows that open inwards or a recess that is less than 60mm, go for an exact fit. When it comes to Twist&Fit blinds, no decision making is needed - these blinds can only be fitted inside the recess due to their tension-hold design.

Are Roller Blinds Still On Trend?
Roller blinds are a timeless staple here in the UK when it comes to blinds, with their popularity being at an all-time high, just behind wooden blinds. Roller blinds have also been modernised with our range of motorised and no drill installation options. Both options offer a whole range of extra added benefits compared with standard roller blinds:
Twist&Fit Roller Blinds
Twist&Fit roller blinds are the same as standard roller blinds in terms of looks and functionality, but require no drills, tools, or screws to be installed unlike standard roller blind! These clever rollers stay up thanks to a tension-hold design, where a retractable 'plunge-end' is used to guide the roller blind into the recess, and is then tightened in an extended position to hold the blind securely in place. Rubber grips on either end of the blind also help it to grip onto a multitude of surfaces. Twist&Fit installation is available as an upgrade on hundreds of our best-selling roller blinds for just £14.95.
Motorised Roller Blinds
As the name suggests, motorised roller blinds are roller blinds which are controlled via a motor. This motor can be connected to a remote control, or wi-fi using a Smart Hub, to allow you to control your blinds through your phone and smart home devices. Great for security, you can set routines and even open and close your blinds while you're away on holiday - a smart and stylish choice!
How Do I Measure for Roller Blinds?
How you measure depends on which fitting you're going for, but it's super simple either way!
For inside the recess fittings: Measure the wall-to-wall width across the top of the recess (where the roller blind will be fitted) and use this as your width measurement. Then measure the drop in three places along the window recess, and use the smallest of the three to order. We'll take care of any deductions to ensure your blind and its fittings sit snug withing the recess. There are some extra considerations for recesses with tiles, picture-rails, or any obstructions, but all you need to do is compare the width between these obstructions with the width at the top of the recess; as long as the difference is no bigger than 35mm, you're golden!
For outside the recess roller blinds: Simply measure the width and drop where you'd like the roller blind to start and finish. We recommend adding 35mm to each side as well as the top and bottom, to ensure a good coverage of your window and minimal light leakage.
Can I Change Which Side the Chain is on a Roller Blind?
We give you the option to customise your chain position when ordering so your blind arrives exactly how you want it! However, if you change your mind after the fact, you can easily switch the side your chain is on without any professional intervention!
If you have a standard roller blind, the first step is removing the blind from its brackets and swapping the brackets around on the wall. Lucky Twist&Fit owners can skip this step though!
From here, you can simply pull the sidewinder (that's the part with the chain) and pin/plunge-end out of the tube and swap them over.
Once you've done this, you can re-install the blind, roll the blind all the way down and continue until it starts to go back up - simple!

Does it Matter if my Roller Blind is Too Long?
With the drop on all of our roller blinds, we add a small length of fabric as standard to ensure when the blind is rolled down, the aluminium tube at the top still has fabric covering it. This is for two reasons, the first, put simply, is because it looks better than having an exposed aluminium tube in your window! Secondly, it gives the tube a little extra grip for rolling them up to make sure operation feels smooth and doesn't slip.
