There’s nothing more fun than getting your toolbox out and fashioning some amazing new additions for your home is there? If you’d like a spark of inspiration to ignite a creative fire this weekend then take a look at five of the very best…
1. Wall crates
Shabby Chic crates are really in at the moment, so why not turn them into something a little different to give your living room an amazing feature wall? By mounting a crate on your wall you can instantly create the perfect contemporary picture rail to display anything you choose.
2. Wooden signs
Rough up some weather-worn timber, give it a coat of wax or varnish, and drill a couple of holes to hang it with some twine. What do you have? The perfect rustic wooden sign that you can decorate in seconds with a paint pen! We love the idea of making signs for the bathroom, toilet, or guest bedroom to give your home some of those homely little touches that make guests feel welcome the moment they step inside.
3. Seasonal cushions covers
When you want to add some seasonal decor to the living room a great thing to try is making your own seasonal cushion covers. You don’t have to limit yourself to intricate patterned fabrics; simple monochrome covers that match the mood of the seasons work just as well. We especially love this idea in the conservatory where you can see the changing of the seasons all around you.
4. Knit a blanket
Blankets really make your house feel like home don’t they? You don’t even have to use them all that often; just fold them up and put them on anything from the chest at the end of your bed to the bench in the hallway. They’re just perfect for that homely addition you’ve been searching for.
5. Rustic coasters
Who says that coasters have to be thin with bright pictures and graphics all over them? We love the idea of going in completely the opposite direction and making big chunky rustic blocks out of planks of wood. Cut them square, rough up the edges with a sander, and finish them off with a coat of wax. They’ll look so good that you’ll soon be using them to dress side surfaces and tables all over the house.
