5 Mood Lighting Options for Your Home

Overhead lights are great for when you need a lot of, well, light. You might need them for when the kids are playing or when doing some DIY, or when there just isn’t a lot of sunlight. But they’re not exactly welcoming and cosy, are they? Here are five ways you can light up your home to create warmth and ambience:
1. Fairy lights
Hanging some white or yellow fairy lights across the mantelpiece or in the corner of the room can add a real sense of cosiness to your home. There are some relatively cheap battery-operated ones available; just remember not to hang them too close to fabrics or leave them on overnight.
2. Lamps
This may seem obvious but lamps are a great way of getting both mood lighting and reading lighting. Don’t feel that you need to stick with just one type; you can have a few in one room, depending on its size, and vary things up with floor lamps, table lamps, and quirky shapes and sizes.
3. Lanterns
Lanterns are cute, handy, and have a real vintage vibe to them. Use real or battery-operated tealights inside, and treat them as an extra lamp. Just remember, if you do use real tealights, never leave children or pets unattended with them, and always be hypervigilant about extinguishing them before leaving the house or going to sleep.
4. Battery candles
A much safer, yet just as stylish, alternative to real wax candles, battery-operated candles can look just like the real thing. They don’t burn down, and the fire safety risks are usually much lower.
5. Wall lights
Some homes have wall lights by default, whilst others have them in addition to overhead lights. If you don’t have them at all, then they could be worth considering. Many can be adjusted using the switch, so you can change between bright and dim with ease.
