We just love an open fire, don’t you? But they’re not for everyone. Many love the convenience of an electric or gas fire. Or the economy of a log-burner. We think there are plenty of pros to having a good, old-fashioned, real open fire in your living room. Here are just a few of them:
1. Cosiness
An open fire is just so cosy, isn’t it? The natural warmth and the gentle crackle combine to offer a real ambience that just can’t be beaten. There’s no need for the TV or music – the fire adds all the atmosphere you need.
2. Power-proof
Your open fire doesn’t depend on your electricity and so can survive even during a power cut – when almost nothing else will! So when the power’s out, light a few candles and gather round that fire. Cup of hot chocolate optional.
3. Cheap
Done well, fires can be a low-cost heating option. Wood comes pretty cheap, and kindling can be gathered just by going on a quick walk (we’re talking twigs and sticks by the way, not chopping down the neighbours hedge!).
4. Easy-to-use
Lighting an open fire couldn’t be easier. It’s simply a case of layering your fuel and staggering your loading as you go. Then you just keep on top of it and make sure it doesn’t go out. It’s that simple!
5. Hygge
An open fire is just so hygge! It offers a certain look and feel to a home that an artificial fire just can’t match. And piling up your logs and kindling using rustic buckets and crates really adds to the look – you’ll love it.
