5 Items in Your Home That Double as Great Ornaments

When you’re decorating your home, you expect to spend money on things like paint, wallpaper, and furniture, plus much more. But we don’t always think to budget for smaller, decorative items like ornaments. And ornaments can be pretty expensive, especially for items that have no practical function! Well, when it comes to saving money in this area, it’s simply a case of getting a little creative! Here are a few items that double as fantastic ornaments and trinkets to put on display:
1. Books
Books are the best form of entertainment, education, and enlightenment – there’s no denying that. But they’re also pretty good at making your home look lived in, cosy, and full of character. Books make great ornaments! Older hardbacks or a book series work best, but go with whatever suits your home. Stack a few on a shelf with other ornaments for a really eclectic look.
2. Musical instruments
If you, or anyone else in your home, has an old musical instrument lying around (preferably one not in use!), it could make a fantastic décor piece. Try placing a violin on a bookshelf or a guitar in the corner of the room. It’ll make a great talking point if nothing else!
3. Games
We’re thinking vintage board games here rather than the latest version of Grand Theft Auto! Think a beautifully handcrafter chess board with matching pieces, or a retro version of Jenga. These can look fab in amongst other, vintage-style accessories.
4. Toys
If you have an old Rubix cube or yo-yo lying around, and most of us do, then don’t hide it away in a drawer! Make use of it, even if it’s just as a display item. You’ll probably find these things are more likely to get used when they’re out where everyone can see them anyway!
